Steering wheel leathering
Leathering is the replacement or covering of worn leather parts. A leather-covered steering wheel is the most striking feature of a car. Even today, the steering wheel is hand-tanned by the car industry.
The leather on the steering wheel has to withstand the highest stresses from the sun’s rays, sweat and grease from the hands. On top of this, there is the constant friction. Over the kilometres driven, the leather surface of the steering wheel becomes shiny, then the paint wears off and finally the leather itself starts to wear.
The only way to get a quality repair is to fit new leather to the steering wheel. Painting the steering wheel will never make the leather as durable, just as a painted steering wheel won’t feel nice in your hands.
Leathering the steering wheel allows you to change its appearance so that it looks more presentable and is more comfortable to use. Unlike plastic materials, leather also prevents your hands from slipping. There are no restrictions on colour shades and several shades can be combined if required. It is also possible to choose between different shades of threads.
Attention! The leather-covered steering wheel must be cleaned regularly, using only a special leather care product. This product must not contain any substances that could damage the protective paint coating.
GEAR LEVER LEATHERING
The gear knob is a detail that gets a lot of friction in the cabin. As a result, the leather on the gear knob quickly becomes shiny and the paint wears off. With us, it is possible to re-leather the worn parts of your vehicle.
The leather pouch around the gearshift gets ugly quite quickly from constant bruising and movement. Cracks will appear on the surface of the leather cover and the leather colour will wear off. Leathering the gear knob and leather bag will give your vehicle a noticeably fresher look.
The leather parts of the gearshift should also be cleaned and conditioned regularly to ensure they last longer.
HANDBRAKE LEVER LEATHERING
In addition to the steering wheel, there are other leather parts in the car interior that will have to be replaced sooner or later.
One of these is the leather of the handbrake or its leg. You can also sew on handbrake covers and leggings that are not made of leather.
As with the steering wheel, the main cause of wear is mechanical damage caused by constant friction. The leather covers on the handbrake of diesel cars wear out particularly quickly (as does the leather on the steering wheel), for the simple reason that the fumes produced when the car is refuelled contain substances which, if they remain on the hands, accelerate the wear process.
Attention! In some cases, it is possible to restore the leather of the handbrake or its leg without replacing it.
